Deposit limit: how to set it, lower it or raise it
€200 a week: that is the deposit limit applied by default to every online gambling account in Belgium. It can come as a surprise just as you go to top up your balance, yet it follows simple rules, known in advance and set by the same regulations for every licensed operator.
What it counts, what it leaves out, how to lower it in a few seconds or ask for it to be raised: here is how the whole system works, as the regulations lay it out and as it applies at Crazy Dice.
A €200 weekly deposit limit set by royal decree
The cap is not a commercial choice. It sits in Article 6 of the Royal Decree of 25 October 2018, which governs games of chance offered online. Originally, that text allowed €500 a week across all sites combined.
A second royal decree, dated 19 June 2022 and published in the Belgian Official Gazette on 20 July, changed the rule on two counts: the amount dropped to €200 and it is now worked out site by site. The new limit has applied since 20 October 2022.
The Belgian Gaming Commission oversees how it is enforced at every legal casino in Belgium, and it also handles requests to raise the limit. The cap is active from the moment an account is opened, whatever your income or gaming history.
What the limit counts and what it ignores
The rule covers what you pay into your account: only the money you transfer into your balance is counted. Your stakes are not included, and neither are your winnings. You play freely with whatever your balance holds, and a credited win does nothing to reduce how much you can still deposit.
An example: you deposit €50 and a win takes your balance to €300. That €300 remains fully playable, and you can still deposit €150 over the period. Your winnings stay available for a fast withdrawal: the limit governs the money coming in, not the money going out.
At Crazy Dice, each deposit starts at €10, and your player area shows at all times how much you can still pay in. That figure is the most reliable way to know where you stand.
Belgium's deposit limit applies per site
Since the 2022 reform, each licensed operator sets its own limit for every account opened with it. If you are registered on two sites, you therefore have two separate caps that know nothing about each other. Lowering your limit with one operator changes nothing elsewhere, and an approved increase only covers the account it was requested for.
The week does not end on Sunday night. According to the clarifications the Commission gave when the reform came in, it means the last seven days on a rolling basis: a deposit stops counting seven days after it was made, and your headroom comes back day by day rather than all at once.
Opening several accounts to deposit more is allowed, but it sidesteps a safeguard designed for you. If your weekly deposits regularly go above €200, that is a question for your budget first.
How to increase your deposit limit: steps and deadlines
The first step goes through your account. You send the request to Crazy Dice with the amount you want, and we pass it on to the Gaming Commission straight away, as the regulations require.
The Commission then consults the Central Individual Credit Register at the National Bank of Belgium. It checks one thing only: are you registered as a defaulter, in other words behind on repaying a loan? It must give its answer within three days of receiving the request. There is no need to contact the register yourself; the Commission handles that.
The text adds a second rule: even once approved, the higher limit can only be used after a three-day period has passed. That period is set by the regulations, not by the operator, and it stops a decision made on impulse from taking effect within the hour. Nor is the approval permanent: the Commission repeats the check every month, and if your name appears on the register of payment defaults in the meantime, the limit drops back to €200.
Lowering your playing limit takes effect at once
Going the other way needs no check and no wait: a lower playing limit applies immediately, and you do not have to justify it.
In your Crazy Dice profile, the "Responsible gaming: keep control" page groups the Control tools, and Deposit limits come first; "Manage my deposits" takes you to the settings. You can choose a daily, weekly or monthly cap there. A daily amount suits someone who plays a little each evening, while a monthly cap fits a leisure budget built around your pay.
To settle on a figure, the Gaming Commission offers a benchmark: spend no more than 5% of your income on gambling. On a net salary of €2,000, that comes to €100 a month, well below the legal cap.
A casino with no deposit limit? What the law allows
Some sites advertise the absence of any cap as a selling point. No operator holding a Belgian licence is allowed to do so: those that offer it work outside the Belgian framework. Players who sign up there also expose themselves to penalties, and that is the real trap of a casino without a Belgian licence.
The only legal way to deposit more than €200 a week remains the increase procedure described above. With a licensed operator, the limit is one of the protections the licence imposes, alongside age and identity checks.
The other tools in your player area
The deposit cap is just one of the levers available. From the same area, you can put your account on a temporary break, block certain time slots day by day, or request a six-month self-exclusion if you want to step further back.
All these responsible gaming tools can be combined freely and cost nothing. A stricter setting applies without delay, just as with the deposit limit.
The legal cap applies from your first deposit. When you create your player account, you can already think about the amount that suits you, then set it lower in your profile.
Frequently asked questions
Your game carries on as normal. The balance already in your account remains fully playable: only new deposits are blocked, until your player area shows an available amount again.
No. The refusal stems from your entry on the register of payment defaults at the time of the check. The regulations do not prevent you from applying again once your situation has been sorted out.
The increase itself relies on a check of the Central Individual Credit Register using your identification details: the regulations add no inquiry into your income. As with any gambling account, anti-money laundering checks may still be requested separately.
For as long as the monthly check does not find you registered as a defaulter. You can also give it up at any time by lowering your limit, with immediate effect.
